Michigan’s Rep. Slotkin Supports Impeachment of Trump, Helping Republicans Raise Money Against Her Campaign

Michigan Democratic Representative Elissa Slotkin accused President Donald Trump of “asking for dirt on a political opponent” from a “junior partner,” aka Volodymyr Zelensky, the leader of the sovereign nation of Ukraine.

U.S. Rep. Elissa Slotkin (D-MI-08) has appeared on CNN Sunday the past couple of days to share her disparaging views on Trump and Zelensky as they relate to her party’s efforts to impeach the president.

The Democratic Party has been making hay with her comments. The DNC War Room account tweeted video of her appearance in which she mentioned the “junior partner”: “Now, watch Rep. @ElissaSlotkin explain what Republicans are either too weak or too far gone to say:”.

Slotkin herself tweeted, “As members of Congress, we all took an oath to support and defend the Constitution. And that is what we must do now.”

And she tweeted, “Amidst the political back and forth, we need to stay focused on the facts, and allow them to drive the conversation: The President pressured a foreign nation to unearth dirt on a political opponent. And that can’t be okay. @CNNSotu”.

Slotkin is handing the Republican National Committee the soundbites it needs to raise money against her.

Ronna McDaniel, GOP Chairwoman, tweeted, “We already raised over $500K to beat Democrat Elissa Slotkin next November. She promised she’d work with @realDonaldTrump, yet she’s backing this impeachment charade. Now we’re letting her district know she wants to override their votes, which helped the President win in 2016!”

This is not the only instance in which Slotkin has attacked Trump.

Slotkin, who is Jewish, called Trump’s comments “toxic” and anti-Semitic after the president questioned Democrats who failed to speak out against Reps. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI-13) and Ilhan Omar (D-MN-5) for their criticism of Israel, The Michigan Star reported.
