Public interest law firms announced appeals of lower court decisions in favor of Maine and Vermont in the 1st and 2nd U.S. Circuit courts of appeal on behalf of Crosspoint Church, which runs Bangor Christian School, and Mid Vermont Christian School and a family whose children attend there.

Maura Healey announced that the state will limit stays at overflow shelters to just five days for migrants beginning next month, and that it will offer to cover plane tickets and other travel expenses for migrants who wish to leave, according to Boston 25 News. COVID Case Numbers Surge in New England, Despite Region Having Highest Vaccinate Rate in U.S.

Hospitals across New England are reporting full intensive care units and staff shortages as a result of COVID- related illnesses that are starting to impact care, despite the region having the highest vaccination rates in the country.

At Least 45 Dead in the Northeast in Wake of Hurricane Ida

The death toll in the Northeast reached 45 on Thursday following the remnants of Hurricane Ida hitting the coast.

Those who were killed ranged geographically from Maryland to Connecticut, the Associated Press reported. At least 12 of those dead were in New York City, with 11 dying in flooded basement apartments and one in a car.
