Michigan Senate Candidate John James Raises Over $3 Million in 2019’s Third Quarter

Michigan Senate Candidate John James announced he raised over $3 million in this year’s third quarter from over 30 thousand donors. This is Michigan’s biggest third-quarter fundraising in an off-year in at least ten years, according to the Washington Examiner.

“You guys rock! Together over 30k of you gave more than $3m during Q3 2019. Our message of prosperity for ALL through conscientious capitalism & compassionate conservatism is the answer to socialism & dysfunction,” James tweeted. “We must stay focused. Thanks for believing in me. I believe in you!”

This is the second successful fundraising effort for James. In June, he received over $1.5 million in donations during the first three weeks after he announced his Senate bid.

Michigan GOP Chairman Laura Cox congratulated James for his fundraising efforts.

“Congrats to @JohnJamesMI on a STRONG Q3! With over 30K donors + $3M raised:
It’s clear Michigan is ready for renewed leadership in the U.S. Senate — someone who will stand up for our conservative values & fight for our state! 🇺🇸🦅 #MISen.” she tweeted.

The war-veteran is seen as the front-runner to win the Republican Senate primary and face off against current Michigan Senator Gary Peters. Previously, President Donald Trump has called James “the future” of the Republican party. Also, James has received an endorsement from Michigan’s Pro-Life PAC.

This Michigan Senate race is considered to be one of the tighter Senate races in 2020. The Cook Political Playbook, which is an independent non-partisan organization that analyzes US elections, puts this Senate race as likely Democrat in Peters’s favor.

A March Emerson poll had Peters beating James by only one percentage point: 44 to 43, which is a statistical tie. Yet, Michigan Independent Source of News and Information (MIRS) reported that a new Target Insyght poll in late September showed Peters with a 16 point lead on James: 53-37. The MIRS poll sampled 800 people for this study, including cell phones.
