Vivek Ramaswamy Calls for Special Counsel Investigation into Hunter Biden Following ‘Joke of a Plea Deal’

GOP presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy released a statement Saturday calling for a special counsel investigation into President Joe Biden’s son Hunter Biden following his “joke of a plea deal” earlier this week to federal tax and firearm charges.

“It’s past time for the FBI and the DOJ to be fully transparent about these political investigations,” Ramaswamy said, adding that a special counsel should also investigate “all findings relating to Hunter Biden and Biden-family business dealings.”

“We the People deserve to know,” Ramaswamy continued.

Noting that he is “deeply skeptical of special counsels,” Ramaswamy added that there “cannot be a two-tiered justice system in this country.”

“If there’s a Trump-focused special counsel, there must be a Biden-focused special counsel too – to investigate mounting evidence of Biden’s potential criminal violations. Public distrust of the American justice system is at an all-time high, and for good reason,” Ramaswamy stated.

“For more than 10 years, there has been an FBI investigation into the alleged bribery of Hunter and Joe Biden from the Ukrainian executive of oligarch-owned Burisma. It’s shameful that we are only now hearing about it, and that Hunter Biden escaped DOJ scrutiny with a fig leaf of a settlement designed to provide air cover for the DOJ just days after it indicted the 45th President,” the Republican candidate said.

Ramaswamy’s call for a special counsel investigation comes after the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) announced Tuesday that Hunter Biden agreed to plead guilty to two charges of misdemeanor tax evasion and enter a pre-trial diversion agreement on a firearm possession charge.

As for the Biden-family business dealings, a group of congressional lawmakers has reviewed a redacted, unclassified document by the FBI detailing the allegations from a confidential source regarding a bribery scheme that involved a Burisma executive paying then-Vice President Joe Biden $5 million to influence United States policy decisions. The document also allegedly revealed that the Burisma executive accused of bribing Joe Biden and his son possessed 17 audio recordings of phone conversations with them.

U.S. lawmakers have since called on U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland to appoint a special counsel to investigate any wrongdoing by Joe Biden and his family in their alleged overseas business dealings.
