A recent poll has revealed that President Trump holds the lead against Democratic presidential candidates in hypothetical matchups in Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.
A poll released this week by Firehouse Strategies and 0ptimus showed that Trump led by an average of six percentage points when up against Democratic candidates former Vice President Joe Biden, Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), former Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Mayor of South Bend, Indiana, Pete Buttigieg. Trump’s closest contender is Biden.
Trump polled ahead of Biden in Michigan by five percentage points, Sanders by six points, Warren by nine points, Buttigieg by 11 points and Bloomberg by 11 points. Trump struggled to gain support among those ages 18-35 but did well among those 55 years or old. Michigan residents ages 18-35 supported Sanders over Trump 58 percent to 34 percent. However, those ages 55 years or older supported Trump over Sanders 53 percent to 37 percent.
Trump led Biden by four percentage points in Pennsylvania. He also led Warren by seven points, Sanders by 11 points, Buttigieg by six points and Bloomberg by four points. Bloomberg polled his highest in Pennsylvania.
In Wisconsin, the president held a double-digit lead against nearly every Democratic candidate. Trump led Biden by nine percentage points, Warren by 12 points, Sanders by 13 points, Buttigieg by 11 points, and Bloomberg by 12 points. Non-partisan Wisconsin voters favored Trump by double digits. This included Warren, who Trump led by more than 18 percentage points among non-partisan voters.
The poll also found that a majority of voters did not support both the impeachment and removal of Trump. Impeachment and removal was opposed by 50.8 percent of voters in Michigan, 52.2 percent of voters in Pennsylvania and 57.9 percent of voters in Wisconsin. Non-partisan voters in Michigan and Wisconsin opposed impeachment and removal by 70 percent and 61 percent, respectively, while non-partisan voters in Pennsylvania slightly supported it at 46.4 percent to 40.9 percent.
Voters in all three states said Democrats should focus on policy issues, rather than impeaching Trump.
The Firehouse/0ptimus poll was completed from December 3 to December 5 and interviewed 1,759 likely 2020 general election voters in Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania via landline, cellphone and text message.
