Police Make Arrest in Killing of Los Angeles Catholic Bishop

by Just the News Staff

The suspected killer of Los Angeles Auxiliary Bishop David O’Connell reportedly worked for the deceased prelate prior to allegedly killing him, police said this week.

Authorities arrested Carlos Medina reportedly after viewing surveillance footage indicating the suspect’s SUV in O’Connell’s driveway at the time of the killing.

Medina is married to a woman who police said performed housework for O’Connell prior to his death. The Associated Press said in a report that Medina had allegedly made claims about O’Connell “owing him money.”

Police have allegedly recovered a weapon at Medina’s residence, located about 35 miles from the scene of the murder, and are presently performing ballistics tests on it to link it to the murder.

O’Connell, a native of Ireland, had been a priest for over 40 years. He was 69 at the time of his death.
