The Nashville Metro Council on Tuesday gave Mayor John Cooper the authority to deputize certain city workers to issue citations against bars and restaurants that violate his coronavirus restrictions, The Tennessean reported.
Metro Health Department employees are overworked in trying to combat businesses, the newspaper said. Only workers who already have citation powers will be authorized to serve as restaurant police, according to the bill that passed on third reading. The mayor must still given written permission to workers to use this new power.
This nearly four-hour-long meeting was Metro Council’s first in-person meeting since April 6.
The Metro Council was discussing deputizing city workers back in September, WMOT reported. One official was worried about overworking the Health Department because of businesses reopening.
Cooper’s move is the latest in his feud against bars and restaurants, especially on Lower Broadway, as The Tennessee Star recently reported.
Dennis Ferrier of Fox 17 has revealed how Cooper cracked down on restaurants and bars despite knowing they accounted for less than one-half of one percent of Davidson County’s 25,000-plus coronavirus cases, as The Star has reported.
Cooper began limiting capacity to 50 percent after a July 2 press conference, citing “record” cases tied to bars and restaurants, even though he reportedly knew better, The Star said.
Citizens who have decided to fight Cooper’s coronavirus crackdown and 34 percent property tax hike continue to mount an effort to recall him, with some organizing on the Restore Nashville website and Re-open Nashville Facebook page.
A “Recall Mayor Cooper Petition Kickoff Rally” is scheduled for October 12 at 1 p.m. Public Square.
Organizers say: “Protest Mayor Cooper & have some fun.”
There will be a recall petition, music, food trucks and more.

I have been taking 90% of my business out of Nashville and across the county line so I don’t have to deal with this mess, and I am not the only one.
The nerve of Cooper!
Maybe if Blackburn wasn’t busy trying to cozy up to the President, she would see the tyranny we are under and help bring in some federal help. Or at the very least, kick Lee in the butt and wake him up. I swear. Doesn’t matter if there’s a D or a R next to their name. They all appear to be worthless.
You said it, they are all worthless!
You need to get a better understanding of how government works and the kines of authority. The people elected Cooper. Now it is up to the people to get rid of him.
Do your duty, snitches, I mean Metro employees. This is important work, making sure that bars and clubs follow the diktat of Comrade Cooper as he makes Nashville safe for all the young people who just might fall into that 0.009% of fatalities from the China virus.
And who would dare to say that keeping one young person from having the flu isn’t worth devastating an economy that contributed hundreds of millions of dollars to the city?
Comrade Cooper’s benevolence knows no bounds. He and his politburo just raised taxes on the owners of these establishments (and the rest of us property owners) so Metro government could get raises and their cronies could continue to feed at the bloated budget trough.
There’s no limit to the important work to be done in what was formerly called Music City and is now celebrated by the mayor as Moscow on the Cumberland
Coming to a town near you – Deputy Dawg on every corner. Better wear a mask. And don’t even think about leaving the house without your shoestrings properly tied, pal. We have ways of dealing with people like you.
I guess they had to wait until most of the WW2 veterans were gone before they could recreate the past. Think of all of those brave young Americans who went off in 1942, 1943, 1944 and 1945, to stop fascism dead in it’s tracks, so it didn’t come here. Many didn’t come home, more came back scarred physically and mentally. For what? Only to have fascism and totalitarianism, take root here anyways! Nashvillians should be ashamed, but more importantly, what are you going to do to fix it?
And when will the State step in and make it right? Aren’t the Counties and Cities creations of the State? Don’t the Cities and Counties get their “just powers” from the State?
The employees may meet a new citizen that does not abide by Commie Cooper’s communist rules, Mr. Two By Four and at no charge a free can of whoop ass liberally applied!!
Mayor Cooper is destroying Nashville, liberty, good will towards men, Christmas, you name it. Stay far away from Yale and Harvard graduates.
And all other Rockefeller-funded enterprises (Planned Parenthood, Johns Hopkins, American Medical Association, etc.).
How does this work? You’re walking OUTSIDE in Davidson County and any Metro employee can accost you and give you a citation? Then how is it enforced? Can they arrest you and demand your ID to be able to enforce a citation? Will they be armed? If there is no specific statue or law passed making it illegal to be without a mask OUTSIDE, then aren’t they acting illegally and criminally in attempting this?!
It matters who governs. This type of tyrannical activity is becoming more common. Liberty and freedom is being eroded by the left daily. Down ballot races matter as much as the top of the ticket. Vote.
