State and local governments are continuing the trend of bribing residents in exchange for taking the COVID-19 vaccine.

The Ingham County Health Department is teamed up with a Michigan zoo Saturday in an effort to get residents vaccinated.

Star News Education Foundation Journalism Project“In partnership with the Ingham County Health Department, Potter Park Zoo is hosting a walk-in vaccination clinic this Saturday from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.,” the Potter Park Zoo announced Thursday. “Individuals 12 and up are eligible for the free vaccination.”

According to the flyer for the event, only one member of a family seeking entrance to the zoo needed to be vaccinated in order for the entire family to receive free admission.

The trend of bribing Americans to take the vaccine has skyrocketed in the past two weeks, after Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine (R) announced that it was creating a lottery system in order to incentivize vaccination.

Vaccinated Ohio adults are entered into a $1 million jackpot, which will be drawn five times. Vaccinated youths in the state are registered for a chance to win a full scholarship to the state college of their choice. There are five scholarship drawings as well.

Ohio announced the first winners of that program Wednesday.

The state says it has seen a large uptick in vaccinations since announcing the incentives.

Minnesota is also bribing residents to get vaccinated.

Any Minnesota resident who takes the COVID-19 shot before the end of June can select one of nine prizes offered by the state. Those prizes range from park and aquarium passes, to fishing licenses, to a $25 Visa gift card.

Other states, including Colorado and New York are also offering incentives for residents to take the vaccine.
