In 19 states across the country, Democratic legislators are trying to pass laws that will provide legal refuge for so-called “transgender” youth, in the wake of multiple states passing laws that crack down on the transgender agenda.
As reported by Fox News, the movement started in California, with a bill first written by California State Senator Scott Wiener (D-Calif.). Wiener, who is notorious in the state for authoring numerous bills promoting sexuality and softening punishments for sexual crimes, tweeted on Tuesday that “up to 19 states…are introducing legislation granting refuge to trans kids & their families threatened with criminalization/separation.”
“We’re building a (rainbow) wall against fascist homophobic/transphobic attacks on our community by states like TX,” Wiener continued, falsely referring to laws that ban genital mutilation surgeries and other harmful practices that are promoted by the transgender lobby.
In Texas, Governor Greg Abbott (R-Texas) officially declared so-called “gender alteration” surgeries to be equivalent to child abuse, and ordered Texas Child Protective Servies to investigate any and all reported instances of such procedures taking place. Alabama Governor Kay Ivey (R-Ala.) signed a law banning puberty-blockers for minors, and Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt (R-Okla.) signed a bill banning non-binary gender markers on state-issued birth certificates.
In response to these laws in Republican-controlled states, Democrat-controlled states such as Minnesota and New York have begun crafting their own bills similar to the bill Wiener first introduced in California back in March. Lawmakers in at least 16 other states also have plans for similar legislation, although some are in red states where the legislation most likely will not pass.
The bills in question would, among other things, would reject out-of-state court judgments that determine gender-altering procedures to be child abuse, and would also reduce enforcement of arrest warrants for those who violate such out-of-state laws.
“We’re sick of just playing defense against what these red states are doing,” said Wiener, who is gay. “We’re going on offense, we’re going to protect LGBQT kids and their families and we’re going to build a rainbow wall to protect our community.”
The 18 other states with lawmakers that wish to join Wiener’s efforts are: Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont, Washington, and West Virginia.
