Arizona AG Tells Hotel Not to Let ICE House 1,200 Migrants

Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich sent a letter to a local hotel in Scottsdale, Arizona to urge them not to allow the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to convert the location to a detention center for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

The hotel is considering a proposed contract from DHS that would allow for the establishment of a facility to hold up to 1,200 migrant adults and children.

“The root-causes of the current crisis are problems of the Biden Administration’s own making, including policies that have administratively — and intentionally — crippled ICE’s important law enforcement mission and incentivized illegal immigration,” Brnovich said in the letter.

According to the letter, Brnovich and other members of the surrounding community worry about the potential risk to those around the facility. He also encouraged officials within the Scottsdale government to study the impact of a potential detention center — specifically due to its proximity to apartment complexes, senior living facilities, and a preschool and high school.

The attorney general went on to criticize the Biden administration’s handling of the ongoing border crisis. His statement reads, “The President is using Arizona as an experiment with his reckless border policies. I will continue to stand up for Arizonans and do everything I can to the Biden administrations’ attempt to abolish ICE. All of us will pay the price, not only with our tax dollars, but also with our national security, and the safety of our families.”

There has been an influx of illegal immigration since President Joe Biden took office. The dramatic increase in migrants has led to overcrowded border facilities. Therefore, the Biden administration has actively attempted to relocate these migrants across the country in an effort to relieve the overcrowding.
