President-elect Donald Trump on Thursday nominated 2024 Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to lead the Department of Health and Human Services.

“For too long, Americans have been crushed by the industrial food complex and drug companies who have engaged in deception, misinformation, and disinformation when it comes to Public Health,” Trump posted on social media in announcing the nomination.

He also said: “The Safety and Health of all Americans is the most important role of any Administration, and HHS will play a big role in helping ensure that everybody will be protected from harmful chemicals, pollutants, pesticides, pharmaceutical products, and food additives that have contributed to the overwhelming Health Crisis in this Country.

“Mr. Kennedy will restore these Agencies to the traditions of Gold Standard Scientific Research, and beacons of Transparency, to end the Chronic Disease epidemic, and to Make America Great and Healthy Again!”

Trump said at a rally about Kennedy: “He’s going to help make America healthy again. … He wants to do some things, and we’re going to let him get to it,” Trump said during a speech. “Go have a good time, Bobby.”

Among several agencies – including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services – the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) operates under the umbrella of HHS.

Kennedy will have the be confirmed by the GOP-controlled Senate to get the post.

Kennedy Jr. endorsed Trump after he suspended his campaign earlier this year. He had a slogan called “Make America Healthy Again” and stumped for Trump, talking about the importance of toxins getting out of American food, as well as raising concerns about vaccines.
