CCP-Linked EV Company Buys Land in Michigan for Factory

by Eric Lendrum

On Tuesday, an electric vehicle (EV) company with ties to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) announced that it had purchased 270 acres of land in the state of Michigan to build a factory for battery components.

According to the Daily Caller, the planned factory near Big Rapids, Michigan will be located roughly 100 miles away from an American military facility, and within 60 miles of military armories. The factory will be built and operated by Gotion, an EV company that could receive hundreds of millions of dollars in both state and federal grants, as well as tax incentives, to complete the project.

In response to the news, many locals have openly stated their opposition to the purchase, which could have both national security implications as well as an impact on the food supply due to being located on agricultural land. However, far-left Governor Gretchen Whitmer (D-Mich.) celebrated the purchase, claiming that the move solidifies Michigan’s status as “global hub of mobility and electrification.” The Biden Administration has also expressed its support for Gotion’s purchase.

“For our state to welcome CCP investment in Michigan 100 miles from the same facility where the Michigan National Guard has worked with military officials from Taiwan is a dangerous double standard that puts national security at risk,” said Congressman John Moolenaar (R-Mich.), representative of the second congressional district, where the factory will be located. “This land purchase in Green Township is a step backwards for Michigan and our communities.”

The top executive of Gotion is Zhen Li, who was a member of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference National Committee, an advisory body to the CCP, as recently as April. Gotion will spend at least $2.4 billion on the new facility.
