President Joe Biden (D) visited a union training center in Howell, Michigan on Tuesday to rally support for his “infrastructure” plan alongside Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D).
Whitmer posted on Twitter her support for Biden’s multi-trillion spending behemoth shortly before the president’s visit:
As the fix the damn roads governor, I’m excited to work with you on this, @POTUS.
Let’s get it done. https://t.co/NnFpTPFyqH

“As the fix the damn roads governor, I’m excited to work with you on this, @POTUS. Let’s get it done,” Whitmer said.
Biden’s infrastructure plan stalled in Congress this week, despite a promised vote from House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D). Biden visited the district of U.S. Rep. Elissa Slotkin (D-MI-08), a vulnerable Democrat whose political career could be in jeopardy depending on a redistricting process currently underway.
“Rep. Slotkin has decided to throw her political career to Biden’s agenda instead of the needs of her constituency,” said Eric Ventimiglia, executive director for Michigan Rising Action.
During remarks at the Operating Engineers union training center, Biden complimented Lt. Gov. Garlin Gilchrist, saying he covers Whitmer “physically and mentally”:

“These bills are not about left versus right or moderate versus progressive or anything that pits Americans against one another,” the Detroit News quoted Biden as saying. “These bills are about competitiveness versus complacency. They’re about opportunity versus decay. They’re about leading the world or continuing to let the world pass us by, which is literally happening.”
Biden accused opponents of the multi-trillion spending spree of being “complicit in America’s decline.”
The paper reported Biden spoke to about 40 people, including many Democratic politicians.
Meanwhile, outside the venue, hundreds of Trump supporters filled the sides of the road:

One of Whitmer’s opponents, Republican Tudor Dixon, accused the incumbent governor of looking for more money from Washington.
“President Biden is in Michigan today to push his “infrastructure” plan and Gretchen Whitmer will be right alongside him with her hand out for more Biden bucks, but she doesn’t have a plan to fix our roads–merely an empty slogan, a record of failure, and a long list of who she thinks is to blame. Everyone and everything else, of course–never herself,” Dixon said in a statement.
“Gretchen Whitmer is driven by politics, ideology, and pandering to a far-left base of supporters she needs next year. She has no common sense solutions to our problems. Her only answers are more handouts from Washington, higher taxes, and punishing mandates.”
