Rep. Levin of Michigan Endorses Elizabeth Warren in Democratic Primary, Gushes Over Candidate During Debate

U.S. Rep. Andy Levin (D-MI-09) has endorsed Democratic presidential candidate Elizabeth Warren.

Levin, from Bloomfield Township, threw his support to U.S. Sen. Warren (D-MA) Tuesday ahead of that night’s Democratic primary presidential debate in Detroit.

“Historic change requires three things: bold vision; a real, bottom-up social movement demanding change; and tough, inspiring leadership to help deliver it. That’s why I’m throwing in with @ewarren!” he tweeted.

Acting like Warren’s biggest cheerleader, he later tweeted from the debate, “I can’t believe I’m sitting here with @SenMarkey and @RepDebHaaland as early supporters of @ewarren, ready to hear her opening statement. Let’s go!”

Michigan Live quoted Levin as saying, “Happily, I believe the surest way to defeat Mr. Trump is to advance bold plans to transform our economy so it works for all of us – not to wring our hands, offer the most cautious candidate and avoid telling the American people the truth.”

The publication also said of the representative:

Levin said he’d followed Warren since he was at Harvard Law School and she was a visiting professor. He praised her policy plans as “clear, smart and brave,” expressing confidence she could lead a “transformative government.”

In a melodramatic moment, Levin tweeted, “We have to work way, way faster and way, way more comprehensively to save life on Earth as we know it. @ewarren will lead the way!”

The Oakland Press quoted Levin as saying he had not thought he would make an endorsement so soon, but “realized that there is one person who combines clear economic and social analysis with the tough and inspiring leadership qualities I seek.”

Warren endorsed Levin’s District 9 campaign last October, saying, “This November, I need more progressives in the fight alongside me in Washington, D.C. – that’s why I need Andy Levin in Congress to stand up for Michiganders and Americans alike in protecting our values, and fighting for the future of our country.”
