U.S. Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) attacked Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos Monday, saying “I think we should send her back.”
“Too many of our children languish in inadequate, ill-equipped schools. Thank you, Betsy DeVos,” Stabenow said in an address to the NAACP convention in Detroit, according to a story by National Review. “I really wish she was not from Michigan. I think we should send her back.”
Stabenow was talking about the chant of “send her back” that Trump supporters used during the president’s campaign appearance in North Carolina last week. The chant was about U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN-05), a Somalia native.
Trump tweeted on July 12, “So interesting to see ‘Progressive’ Democrat Congresswomen, who originally came from countries whose governments are a complete and total catastrophe, the worst, most corrupt and inept anywhere in the world (if they even have a functioning government at all), now loudly… and viciously telling the people of the United States, the greatest and most powerful Nation on earth, how our government is to be run. Why don’t they go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came. Then come back and show us how… it is done. These places need your help badly, you can’t leave fast enough. I’m sure that Nancy Pelosi would be very happy to quickly work out free travel arrangements!”

Trump referenced Omar as well as U.S. Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY-14), Rashida Tlaib (D-MI-13) and Ayanna Pressley (D-MA-07).
Trump on Tuesday singled out Tlaib and called her a “lunatic” after watching a video of her being thrown out of a 2016 Trump rally, Battleground State News said.
The video showed Tlaib being removed by security guards at Detroit’s Cobo Center. While leaving, she yelled “you guys are crazy” at Trump supporters. In response, a person called her an “animal” and told her “to get a job.”
